Terms of use for Split
These terms apply to using Split at split.xoricon.app and to buying Premium. We have written them as plainly as we can. The German version prevails.
Last updated: 2 November 2026
1. Provider and scope
Split is provided by Xoricon GmbH, Aichelbergweg 1a, 88239 Wangen im Allgäu, Germany, email: office@xoricon.com, phone: +49 (0)7522 914 270.
These terms apply to everyone who uses Split, with or without an account, free or with Premium. Conflicting terms of users do not apply.
2. What Split is – and what it is not
Split is a shared expense book: groups record expenses, income and payments, and Split works out who owes whom how much.
Split does not move money. Split is not a bank, not a payment service and not an escrow service. Transfers happen outside Split, for example in your banking app. Saved payment details (such as an IBAN or PayPal link) are only a note to copy or open.
Balances in Split are a calculation aid based on the group's entries. They are not a legally binding statement of claims. Group members are responsible for the accuracy of their entries and for the actual payments.
3. Use, account and groups
Split works without signing up, using an anonymous device account. To use Split on several devices or to buy account Premium, you secure the account with a passkey, Google or Apple.
All members of a group can see and edit it. Whoever shares an invitation link decides who can join, so share links only with people who belong to the group.
You must not misuse Split; in particular, do not upload unlawful content, infringe the rights of others or work around technical limits. In case of misuse we may block individual features or delete an account.
4. Free use and Premium
The core features are free. Premium unlocks additional features, currently receipt photos and multiple currencies, and with account Premium also the export.
Group license (€2.99 one-time): Premium for one group and all its members, without an expiry date for as long as the group exists. Can be bought without a secured account.
Yearly plan (€9.99 per year): Premium in every group the paying person is a member of. It renews for another year unless cancelled before it ends. You can cancel at any time to the end of the paid year in Stripe's customer portal, reachable under “Konto & Einstellungen” → “Premium”.
Lifetime (€29.99 one-time): like the yearly plan, but without an expiry date for as long as Split is offered.
All prices are final prices including VAT. The contract is concluded when you complete the purchase in the payment step; you receive the confirmation by email.
5. Payment
Payments are processed by Stripe (Stripe Payments Europe Ltd.). The available payment methods are shown in the payment step. Split neither asks for nor stores card or other payment details.
If a payment is refunded or charged back, the Premium bought with it ends.
6. Fair use of receipts
To keep Premium affordable for everyone, receipts have limits: up to 2 MiB per file (the app shrinks photos first), up to 10 receipts per entry, up to 1 GB per group and up to 200 uploads per account and day.
7. Retention and deletion
Receipt photos are removed from the server when a group rests: without Premium after 90 days without activity, after 14 days if everything is settled, with Premium after 24 months. The entries themselves remain.
Fully settled groups without Premium become dormant after 120 days without activity; the deletion is announced in the group, and after another 30 days the group is deleted. Groups with open balances or with Premium are never deleted automatically.
Details are on split.xoricon.app under “Security” and in the privacy notice.
8. Deleting your account
You can delete your account in the app at any time. You leave all groups; the groups stay for the other members, and your name stays on past entries so their balances remain correct.
A running yearly plan ends immediately on deletion; there is no pro-rata refund. A lifetime purchase ends with the account.
9. Availability and changes
We aim for smooth operation but cannot promise uninterrupted availability. Because Split stores data on the device first, you can keep recording during an outage; syncing follows later.
We keep developing Split and may change features. We will not materially reduce the core paid features of Premium during a paid period.
10. Liability
We are liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health and under the German Product Liability Act.
For slight negligence we are only liable for breaches of essential contractual obligations, which make using Split possible in the first place and on which you may rely, limited to the foreseeable, typical damage. Otherwise, liability for slight negligence is excluded.
We are not liable for the accuracy of entries and figures that group members enter, or for payments between them.
11. Changes to these terms
We may change these terms for the future if the law or Split changes materially. We give timely notice of changes affecting paid services in the app or by email; if you disagree, you can cancel a plan as of the change.
12. Law and dispute resolution
German law applies. As a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory provisions of the country where you habitually reside.
We are neither willing nor obliged to take part in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board.
The right of withdrawal for purchases is described in the withdrawal information for Split.
