The word counter counts words, characters (with and without spaces), sentences, paragraphs, lines, and UTF-8 bytes directly in the browser, and also estimates reading and speaking time. A word frequency list shows the most used words, optionally with common filler words hidden, and a goal mode checks text against a minimum or maximum word or character count.
Processing runs fully locally in the browser, including for uploaded TXT files. Counting rules for words, characters, and reading time can differ slightly between systems, for example with emoji, hyphenation, or URLs.

Tips for better results
Distinguish characters with and without spaces
Forms, CMS fields, and social media limits count characters differently. Check whether the target system counts spaces before relying on a single number.
Check UTF-8 bytes for limits with special characters
Some APIs and database fields limit size in bytes rather than characters. With emoji, accented letters, or CJK characters, the byte count differs from the character count - the UTF-8 byte figure shows the value that actually matters.

Does the tool count characters with or without spaces?
Both values are shown at the same time, since different target systems (forms, social media, CMS) use different rules.
How is reading time calculated?
The estimate is based on an average reading and speaking speed and the detected word count. Actual times depend on text difficulty and reading pace.
Are very long texts or files supported?
Yes, but for very large texts the word frequency list is skipped to protect browser memory and speed. The basic counts remain unaffected.
