For couples with different incomes

Fair doesn't always mean half and half.

When one of you earns more, splitting everything 50/50 can feel wrong. Split divides each expense the way you agreed.

  • 60/40 or any ratio
  • Set per expense
  • One balance instead of many transfers

Example

A month as a couple, 60 : 40

Sam earns 3,000 and Alex 2,000 a month after tax. They split rent and groceries 60 : 40 (shares 3 : 2), the cinema night half and half.

Change the amounts – the result updates right away.

How Split helps

  1. 01

    Percent or shares

For each expense you choose how it's split: equally, by percent, by shares or with fixed amounts. 60 : 40 takes two numbers.

  2. 02

    Not everything by income

Leisure, gifts or hobbies can be split differently or not at all. A split always applies to that one expense only.

  3. 03

One balance instead of many transfers

Split shows who's ahead. Instead of settling each expense, one transfer a month is enough.

Tips

  1. 1

Recalculate the shares once a year, not every month.

  2. 2

Agree which expenses go by income and which half and half.

  3. 3

If you like detail, the overview shows who paid and who used how much.

Frequently asked questions

Your question isn't here? Write to us

How do we work out the share by income?

Divide each person's net income by your combined income. If one earns 3,000 and the other 2,000, that's 60 and 40 percent. Enter those numbers as shares.

Does the ratio apply to every expense?

No, you set it per expense. Rent and groceries by income, a gift for one partner's mother only for them, the holiday half and half – as you like.

Does a new salary change past expenses?

No. Every expense keeps its split. Add new expenses with the new shares from then on.
