Settling up

Settle up and mark as paid

In the end Split shows who pays whom and how much – with as few transfers as possible. The money moves outside Split; afterwards you mark the payment as paid.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Open settling up

Open the group and tap “Settle up” below “Your balance” at the top. It's also in the group menu.

  2. 2

    See the suggestion

Under “Here's how it's fair” you see who pays whom and how much, for example “Robin pays Lea”. Split suggests as few transfers as possible.

  3. 3

    Pay

Tap a payment or “⋯”. Under “Pay …” you see the payment details that person added, such as an IBAN or PayPal link, with “Copy” or “Open”. Transfer the amount with your banking app or PayPal.

If it says the person hasn't added payment details, ask them directly. You add your own under “Payment methods” in your account.

  4. 4

    Mark as paid

Once the money is sent, tap “Mark as paid” on the payment. Split records it as a settlement and updates the balances for everyone. Tapped by mistake? “Undo” in the notice at the bottom takes it back.

  5. 5

    Done

When every payment is done, Split shows “All settled. Nothing to do.”. If you paid everything at once, use “Mark all as paid”.

Good to know

  • If only part was transferred, choose “Adjust amount” on the payment, enter the actual amount and tap “Save transfer”. The rest stays open.
  • Split doesn't move any money. It only keeps track of who has paid.
  • The suggestion changes as soon as new entries are added. So you can settle up any time, not just at the end.
