For holidays with several families

Four kids, three families. Fair per head.

A family with three children pays more than a couple – but children eat less. With shares, Split captures exactly that.

  • Split by shares
  • Kids half, adults in full
  • Different for each expense if needed

A holiday home with three families

Counted in half-heads: adults 2, children 1. The Kaya family (2 adults, 2 kids) has 6 shares, the Millers (2 adults, 1 kid) 5, Sophie and Lars without kids 4. The adults share the wine equally, so each family pays the same part.

How Split helps

  • One family, one person

Each family becomes one person in the group. That way each family makes at most one transfer at the end.

  • Count shares, not heads

For each expense choose “by shares” and enter how many shares each family has. Split calculates to the cent.

  • Not everything is shared the same way

Kids' activities only for families with children, wine only for the adults: each expense has its own split.

Tips

  • Agree on the shares before the holiday, for example kids half and babies not at all.

  • Add the house per head, outings only for those who go.

  • Put the shares in the group name or the first expense, so nobody has to ask later.

Frequently asked questions

Your question isn't here? Write to us

How do we set up “kids pay half”?

With shares: each family gets as many shares as adults plus half the children. To keep whole numbers, count in half-heads: adults 2, children 1.

Do the shares apply to every expense?

No, you set them per expense. Share the house per head and the wine only among the adults.

Are shares a Premium feature?

No. Splitting equally, by shares, by percentage or by exact amounts is free in Split.
