Step by step
- 1
Open the members
Open the group, tap the group menu at the top and choose “Manage members”. You'll see everyone and whether they've already “joined” or are “not joined yet”.
- 2
Share the group link
Under “Group invitation link”, tap “Share group link”. Share it via “Share …”, “WhatsApp” or “Email”, or tap “Copy link”. It's fine to post it in your group chat.
If you're together, tap “Show QR code”. The others scan it with their phone camera.
- 3
The others pick their name
Whoever opens the link sees “Who are you?” and taps “I'm …” with their name. If their name isn't listed, they join as a new person under “None of them? Join as a new person”.
- 4
Or invite one person
For one particular person, tap “Invite” next to them and send them the personal link. If they aren't listed yet, enter them under “Add person” and tap “+ Person”.
Good to know
- The group link works for everyone until someone renews it. Each name can only be taken once.
- If the group link got into the wrong hands, tap “Renew link”. The old link then stops working for everyone; personal links stay valid. The other members get a push notification about it if they have notifications turned on.
- A personal link belongs to exactly one person and can only be used once.
- Your device needs an internet connection to create the links.
- Whoever opens the link needs neither an app nor an account – Split runs in the browser.
- People who join later start with a balance of 0 and only take part in future entries.
