How Split helps
Add it where it happens
Marina fee, diesel, fish market: add expenses right on board. Split works offline and syncs in the next marina.
A kitty as you know it
If you pay in, record payments as transfers to whoever keeps the kitty. If you'd rather pay your own way, just add your expenses. Both work in the same group.
Settle up on the last evening
Split suggests a few transfers that leave the crew even. IBAN or PayPal link can be added and copied.
Tips
Agree before the trip whether there's a kitty with payments in or everyone pays their own.
Invite the crew via link before you cast off. At sea the signal is often gone.
Add bottle deposit refunds as income.
Before settling, check that every receipt from the marinas is in.

Frequently asked questions
Your question isn't here? Write to us
We all pay into a classic kitty. Does that work with Split?
Yes. One person keeps the kitty. Add each payment in as a transfer to them, and every purchase from the kitty as their expense. At the end Split shows what's left and who still gets money back. Split doesn't hold the money itself.
How do we handle the yacht's security deposit?
If you get the deposit back, it doesn't need to go in the kitty. If damage is deducted, add only the amount kept as an expense and share it among the crew.
Does the skipper pay too?
That's up to the crew. If the skipper is in the group and doesn't pay, simply don't select them for the expenses. A paid skipper is an expense like the charter.
Do we need internet on board?
No. Split saves expenses on the phone and syncs them as soon as you have signal in the next marina.
