Getting started
Create your first group
A group collects all expenses of a trip, a shared flat or a night out. Here's how to create your first one – no account needed, in under a minute.

Step by step
- 1
Open Split
Open Split in your browser. The first time, Split asks “How would you like to start?”. Tap “Continue without signing in” – no email or password needed.
If you already secured your account on another device, sign in under “Already have an account?”. Split then brings your groups to this device.
- 2
Create a new group
Under “Your groups”, tap “Create new group”. If you already have groups, you'll find the “+ New group” button at the bottom.
- 3
Pick a name and currency
Enter a name under “Group name”, for example “Holiday” or “Flat”. Under “Currency”, choose the currency you settle up in.
- 4
Enter your name
“Your name” is how the others see you in the group. You're part of it automatically.
- 5
Add the others
Enter a name under “Members” and tap “+” or press Enter. Repeat for everyone who's in. Remove a wrong name with “×”.
You don't have to add everyone right away: people can be added to the group later.
- 6
Create the group
Tap “Create group”. The group is saved on your device right away, even without internet. As soon as you're online, Split syncs it with the server.
Good to know
- The group name and currency can't be changed after creating the group at the moment. Pick the currency you want to settle up in.
- Each name can only appear once in a group. If two people share a name, tell them apart, for example “Lea” and “Lea M.”.
- Without signing in, your data is only on this device at first. Secure your account later with a passkey, Google or Apple so you don't lose it with your device.
