Add your first entry

An entry records who paid what and for whom. Here's how to add your group's first expense – Split works out the balances right away.

Step by step

   Open the group

   Under “Your groups”, tap the group, then tap “＋ Entry” at the bottom.

   Pick the type

   “Expense” is selected at the top. Use “Income” for money coming into the group, such as a deposit or a refund, and “Transfer” when one person gave money directly to another.

   Enter title and amount

   Under “Title”, enter what was paid for, for example “Dinner at the harbour”, then the “Amount”. “＋ Description” adds a note.

   Paid in another currency? Pick it next to the amount; Split converts it into the group currency with an exchange rate. This is a Premium feature.

   Check date and category

   “Date” is today; change it if the expense was on another day. A “Category” such as “Food & drink” is optional and can be picked later.

   Pick who paid

   “Paid by” starts with you. If someone else paid, pick them. If several people paid together, tap “＋ Several payers” and enter each person's part.

   Pick how to split

   “Equally” splits the amount across everyone in the group. With “By shares” you enter shares per person, for example 2 for double and 0 for anyone who wasn't there; percentages work too. “Exact amounts” gives everyone a fixed amount.

   Save

   Tap “Save expense”. The entry now appears in the group's list. At the top, “Your balance” shows where you stand; tap the open balances below it to see who gets money back and who owes.
