How Split helps
One receipt, two expenses
Split mixed shopping into shared and personal. Only the shared part goes in the group.
Only those who eat it pay
For each expense you choose the participants. Nobody pays for food they don't eat.
Bottle deposit back into the pot
Whoever returns the empties adds the refund as income. It's shared among everyone who paid.
Settle up once a month
Split shows at any time who is ahead and who is behind. At the end of the month one or two transfers are usually enough.
Tips
Agree on what counts as shared shopping before the first expense goes in.
Add the shop while you unpack the bags. Afterwards it's quickly forgotten.
Bottle deposit refunds go in the group as income.
Settle up monthly, so the amounts stay small.

Frequently asked questions
Your question isn't here? Write to us
What counts as shared shopping and what doesn't?
That's for your flat to decide. Usually cleaning products, toilet paper and basics are shared, and everyone pays for their own food. Split a mixed receipt into two expenses.
One flatmate doesn't eat meat. How do we split then?
Add meat as a separate expense shared only by those who eat it. Everything else is shared by all.
Do we have to keep every receipt?
No. Entering the amount is enough. If you'd like to attach receipts, you can with Premium.
