Do we need a joint account for this?
No. Everyone pays with their own card as usual and adds the expense. Split shows who has contributed more right now. You don't need an account with Split either.
We each pay in a fixed amount every month. Does that work?
Yes. One person keeps the fund, and you add your payments in as transfers to them. Spending from the fund are their expenses. That way you always see what's left.
What about expenses for just one person?
They don't have to go in the household budget. If they do, select only that person as participant for the expense.
