How long data stays

Split keeps nothing longer than needed. It clears inactive groups and receipts after fixed periods – with notice and the option to keep a group.

Last checked: 3 November 2026

Step by step

  1. 1

    Receipts

Without Premium, Split deletes the receipt photos from the server after 90 days without activity – after 14 days if everything is settled. With Premium they stay for 24 months after the last activity. The expenses stay, and so do copies on your devices.

  2. 2

    Dormant groups

If everything is settled and nothing happens for 120 days, the group becomes dormant. It stays readable, and Split announces the deletion.

  3. 3

    Deletion

After another 30 days the dormant group is deleted for good.

  4. 4

    Keep a group

If a deletion is coming up, you see it under “Premium for this group”. Tap “Keep group” there – or simply add a new entry. Both reset the periods.

Good to know

  • Split doesn't delete groups with open balances or groups with Premium automatically. With Premium only the receipt photos follow the 24-month period; you see a notice 14 days before.
  • To keep entries for good, export the group as CSV beforehand.
