Add expenses in a foreign currency

Paying in krona, francs or dollars on holiday? With Premium you enter the amount in the local currency and Split converts it into the group currency.

Last checked: 3 November 2026

Step by step

  1. 1

    Create an expense

Tap “+ Entry” in the group and enter the title and amount as usual.

  2. 2

    Pick the currency

In the selector next to the “Amount”, pick the currency you paid in. If it's missing, choose “Other …” and enter the three-letter code under “Currency code”, for example “AED”.

  3. 3

    Check the rate

Split shows the converted amount and the ECB reference rate with its date. If you paid at a different rate, tap “Change rate” and enter your rate under “Rate: 1 … in …” (1 … in …).

  4. 4

    Save

Save the expense as usual. It's stored in the group currency; the original amount and the rate stay visible in the entry.

Good to know

  • Foreign currencies need Premium in the group. Without Premium, such an expense can't be saved.
  • If the ECB rate is older than seven days, Split points it out. For currencies without an ECB rate, you enter the rate yourself.
  • Transfers between members are always in the group currency.
