Join a group

Someone sent you an invite link to a group. Here's how to accept it – you need neither an app nor an account.

Last checked: 3 November 2026

Step by step

  1. 1

    Open the link

Tap the invite link in the message or scan the QR code with your phone camera. Split opens in the browser or the installed app and shows the invitation with the group's name.

  2. 2

    Say who you are

With a group link, tap “I'm …” with your name under “Who are you?”. If your name is missing, enter it under “None of them? Join as a new person” and tap “Join”. With a personal link, tap “Join as …”.

Picking an existing name means you take over that person, including their earlier expenses.

  3. 3

    Get going

Split opens the group. You see all entries and your balance and can add expenses yourself with “+ Entry” at the bottom.

Good to know

  • If the link doesn't open Split directly, start Split, tap “I have an invitation link” under “Your groups”, paste the link under “Invitation link or code” and tap “Continue”.
  • Your device needs an internet connection to join.
  • If your name is already taken, Split points it out. Adding an initial like “Lea K.” helps the others tell you apart.
  • If you already use Split on another device and secured your account, tap “Already have an account? Sign in & connect ›” and sign in. Then open the invite link again.

Ready for your first group?
